I recently registered to vote in California and will be going to the polls on Election Day to experience what many Americans do as soon as they turn 18. I could mail in my ballot, but I want to check the whole scene in-person.
I posted this info on another forum recently and have been told that I'm as good as DA'd if I'm discovered. I'd like to pose this question here since JWN gets much more traffic.
Do you have any knowledge of a U.S. JW registering to vote and going to the polls without getting DA'd?
My read of the 1999 QFR leads me to believe that there are at least a couple of scenarios where a JW could register and go to the polls and not be looked upon as having "violated neutrality".
Anyone have experience with this?

How often did you entertain the "Traveling Overseers", and did you regret it afterwards?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini found taking the traveling overseers out for a meal, to be a waste of time.
our literature regulary spoke of the upbuilding talk the local congregations received by entertaining our brothers.
now some of the modern cos look at their telecommunication devices, talk of things not related to our ministry or phone it in.

Many COs would only want to have lunch Wed, Thurs, Friday. That way they could keep Saturday afternoon to themselves. (Not sure if that was officially OK or not, but many COs did this.)
Anway, my wife is a fantastic cook who really enjoys great food and wine. We got this one young CO and his wife who had just gotten into the traveling work. We had them over for one mid-week lunch and hit it off really well. For all their remaining visits, we suggested they join us for Saturday lunch so we could enjoy some good wine(s) with our meal. They were happy to take us up on the offer. The PO arranging lunch schedules would always ask us if we wanted to take a mid-week slot, and we'd always discreetly decline saying we had already had the "privilege" on their first visit. I think it really pissed off the PO, who was a real Circuit/District power player, that this CO and his wife enjoyed hanging out with us relative nobodys.
Other COs over the years were a mixed bag.

When You Were A JW Were You Disturbed By "Apostate" Literature or "Apostates" At Conventions?
by minimus ini was always curious about what they had to say.
(i guess i was an apostate in the making)..

As a kid, I always found it kind of exciting and entertaining if there were sign-waving apostates outside a DC.
I thought that most of the sign wavers seemed like they were off their meds, but, equally, it was amusing seeing some of the paranoid responses by true-blue JWs.

I hope my elderly JW mother doesn't read this.
If she does, she'll probably stop calling my DFed brother to discuss the "necessary family business" of his latest hangnail or her sore back.
At least it's SOME contact, but It's pretty sad. Health issues. That's about it.

Thanks sickandtired and Blondie for the info.
I guess the next time I rub shoulders with a well-connected JW, I'll ask if there's any "new news" from the Big House.

the news of a new GB member, Douglas Mark Sanderson was announced.
Has anyone received any further confirmation of this?
I almost brought it up at an extended-family dinner recently, but opted not to, since I couldn't very well say I heard it at the annual meeting. Nor do I any longer get the inside scoop (very often) from insider types who would have attended.

Rutherford's smear campaign (a must read)
by Leolaia inthere has been some interest recently about the moyle case, and how it may have set a precident in what became the society's disfellowshipping policy.
in july 1939, the chief legal counsel of the watchtower bible & tract society, olin r. moyle, resigned from his position in a protest over conditions at bethel and rutherford's mistreatment of workers.
he did not want to continue living under those conditions and he felt he could effect positive change for his brothers by taking such a stand.
